femme fatale

A temptress or more commonly a femme fatale is called a type of woman that we come across in French literature since the 18th century, although its most powerful presence was in the late 19th century.
Antonis Kyriakoulis' surrealistic universe is overwhelmed by these big-nosed female figures˙ it is his trademark. They are caricatures of the Athenian everyday life, petty-bourgeois, bigoted, outrageous, unreal, puzzling, black-eyed, eccentric and elegant in their own way, with funny, historical names. Femmes fatales seem to move, as almost dancing, in an irrational world in their unique, charming and distinguished style: 1940s sunglasses, veil hats, black gloves, Fedoras (big soft hats), fur collars and classic diamond or pearl earrings (faux or not is totally insignificant). Watch out because they walk among us…
